After studying at the Royal Academy of Music with William Bennett, Kate Hill and Sebastian Bell, Katherine Baker began her orchestral career with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Following four anda half extremely happy years in Cardiff, Katherine
was delighted to be given the opportunity to become Principal Flute with the Halle in 2004, and now she is the Principal Flute of the Royal Covent Garden Opera Orchestra in London. When her schedule permits, she appears as guest principal
with such orchestras as the London Symphony, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, English Chamber and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Always one to indulge her passion for chamber music, Katherine also finds time to appear with a wide range of ensembles and smaller groups, notably the Gould Trio Ensemble 360, Galliard Quintet and renowned musicians such as Michael Cox, Robert Plane and Suzanne Willison.
Through her teaching post at the RNCM and at Chetham’s School of Music and also in school workshops through the Halle’s Education Scheme,Katherine is able to pass on her passion for flute playing and love of music.
