This is a tenure-track opening.  The 2017 season is from June 28 through August 6.  In 2017 Principal Flute will be needed for Carmen, Così fan tutte and The Burning Fiery Furnace, and will earn approximately $9900.00.
Central City Opera does not provide housing or a travel allowance for orchestra members

Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to attend these auditions.  The successful candidate at this audition will be required to show proof of employment eligibility.  If a current member of the orchestra wins this audition, the runner-up may be offered the resulting vacant position.

Ulster Orchestra

The Ulster Orchestra is seeking to appoint a Principal Piccolo/Principal Flute (no.3).

Under its Chief Conductor Rafael Payare, and Principal Guest Conductor Jac van Steen, the Ulster Orchestra is celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2016/17. Its season concerts take place at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, many of which are broadcast by BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Ulster.
The ideal candidate will:
  • have excellent orchestral section and solo playing skills, on both piccolo and flute
  • show excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • be able to contribute to the wide range of activity within the orchestra’s Learning and Community Engagement work, including chamber music
Candidates may be shortlisted according to the following criteria:
  • A high standard of musical training
  • Recent professional orchestral experience

Applicants should:
- be an exceptional soloist.
- preferably have leadership experience.
- be able to lead the flute section (including guest players), to guide and motivate the players.
- be able to assist the management when required, in artistic or personnel matters regarding
the flute section or the whole orchestra.
- be a team player who feels at home in a symphony orchestra.
- have a positive, studious and flexible attitude.

Terms of employment:
- The contract is initially for a probationary period, which can be extended, becoming a permanent position if both parties are in agreement.
- 100% contract being required to play 85%.

- Salary: scale 3 as in the Dutch Orchestras' Collective Labour Agreement.
- Contribution to the ABP Pension Fund is compulsory.

Selection Procedure:
There are three parts to the selection procedure. Firstly an audition is held to assess if the candidate has the required artistic qualities to be considered for the position. Secondly, an interview takes place in which the candidates affinity with the orchestra, his/her social, leadership skills and qualities will be discussed and assessed. Finally, part of the selection procedure consists of assessing the candidate's strengths and weaknesses giving clarity to expectations of the leadership role.

Applications should be sent in writing (by email) indicating motivation for applying along with a Curriculum Vitae. EU employment rules are applicable and only EU citizens with unrestricted work and residence permits will be invited to audition. Those from outside the EU must be in possession of unrestricted Dutch work and residence permits. Selection for the audition will be made based on the written applications.

The application, along with proof of nationality and copies of work and residence permits where required, must be received by 29 March 2017.

1. W. A. Mozart: Flute Concerto in G major, KV 313. 1st movement.
2. S. Prokofiev: Sonata in D for flute and piano, Op. 94. 1st and 4th movements.
